CATHERINE DE CHERMONT

Artistic discipline/s: Glass mosaic and copper foiled glass

Location: Northern suburbs of Brisbane

My creative space is...my garage.

The last piece I created is...a chair. The seat is covered in yellow and blue mosaic representing a wattle.

What is unique about your work? I don’t follow any plans. I like to experiment with different techniques, combining them and playing. Every piece I create is different. I find an object and let it guide me to an idea.

Inspiration for my art comes from... nature, books, museums and cities.

My favourite tool for creating is...my glass snippers and grinder.

My biggest artistic challenge is...finishing on time. I enter competitions to give me clear deadlines to work to.

What my art has taught me...there is beauty everywhere. All you need to do is notice.

Words that inspire me...“Qui veut, peut" -- “who wants, can”

Who is your hero? It is so difficult to choose! Gaudi in Barcelona, Facteur Cheval in Brittany, and mosaics anywhere.
